Johnnie Banks was a supervisory investigator and investigations director at the United States Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board (CSB) when he retired in December of 2017 after fifteen years of service. He participated in and led numerous CSB investigations and case studies. He is also a Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator. Prior to joining the CSB, Mr. Banks worked for twenty-two years at ChevronTexaco Corporation, in Richmond, California as a Process Control Manager and Head of Operations.
He has an extensive background in oil refining, including plant operations, process control, risk management and maintenance. In addition, he was extremely involved with health and safety initiatives at the facility. Prior to leaving ChevronTexaco, Mr. Banks was instrumental in the implementation and coordination of a near miss reporting and incident investigation-tracking program at the Richmond refinery, and worked closely with other facilities and organizations in that process. He is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley.
